Extracurricular
In my free time, I watch and play sports, spend time with loved ones, and get involved in my community. These extracurricular activities have equipped me for success by shaping me into a more caring, capable, curious, confident, and calm person.
Pre-Dental Club
I decided to pursue a career in dentistry in 8th grade. At NC State, the Pre-Dental Club has helped me stay committed to that goal. I attend monthly meetings to learn from practicing dentists as well as experts in the dental industry. I've also received advice from a variety of students that took different paths to dental school. I became a more integral part of the club after I was elected Vice President as a senior. I collaborate with other officers to organize meetings, coordinate events, and mentor pre-dental underclassmen. One of my favorite experiences in the Pre-Dental Club was volunteering at the local Boys & Girls Club, where we did arts and crafts to share and encourage healthy dental habits. I think the kids had more fun playing with our stuffed animals though!
Intramural Basketball
Basketball has always been my favorite sport. A lot of my favorite memories from back home come from playing basketball with my friends in our driveways. Intramural basketball at NC State helped me bring that carefree happiness to college. It also benefited me in less sentimental, more practical ways:
-
It was outlet for me to relax and have fun during stressful and busy times.
-
It helped me make new friends on campus when I wasn't sure where to start.
-
It improved my confidence and communication skills
-
It pushed me to be a better leader and teammate beyond the basketball court.
Recently, it fueled my thirst for knowledge outside of class. I wanted to make the most of my last semester of intramural basketball, so I paid closer attention to the game, studied film, and organized a playbook for my friends and I to use. This playbook embodies my love for the pursuit of knowledge, and it reminds me to approach school, work, and life with curiosity, motivation, and joy.
Disc Golf
I never played disc golf before college. As freshmen, my friends picked it up and encouraged me to join them. Now, it is one of my favorite hobbies! Disc golf reminds me to be patient, work hard, and reflect on my mistakes in a positive, encouraging way. It also pushes me to explore the outdoors and be active. Most importantly, it allows me to stay connected with my closest friends as we approach graduation and begin the rest of our lives. Wherever I go in life, I will make sure to find the nearest disc golf course.
